In 2006 the first Pilot Training for twelve Sierra Leoneans on solar photovoltaic and electronic skills was held.
In consideration of the poor power supply in Sierra Leone, especially in the rural communities, the implementation of the solar photovoltaic technology has had a significant impact on the lives of people in this country.
With solar equipment sponsored by the Sunshine Fellowship, SFYDP was able to establish their first Rural Electronic Workshop (REW) at the project owned farm in Nyangba Town, Koya Rural Chiefdom.
In a six months residential course, 12 young men were trained in basic electronics and solar photovoltaic technology. Monitored by the two trained technicians of Safer Future and two voluntary workers from Austria/Europe, these future technicians will be able to install, maintain and repair solar photovoltaic systems. The REW is the first to offer training in Basic Solar Photovoltaic Technology and Basic Electronics nationwide. It will be another step in developing the country by spreading solar photovoltaic knowledge and education to the population, thus them independent of foreign technicians. |
