Pilot Project: Ahmadiyya Primary School in Malaisoko, Koya Rural District Among the many surveyed damaged pumps and wells, the project's Water & Sanitation team was able to rehabilitate one well with a hand pump at the Ahmadiyya Primary School in Malaisoko through funds provided by the Blue Planet Run Foundation.Several meetings were held to establish a better relationship and create understanding of collective participation in community development programmes.A committee comprising of members of the school committee and the village as well as Safer Future members was established to supervise the maintenance and possible repairing of the well in the future. The committee is also responsible for raising funds for operation and maintenance of the well. Every school child and every person from the community using the water of the well has to pay a small contribution, establishing a sense of responsibility and ownership among the people of the community. The Water & Sanitation Team replaced the head and the rusty sucker rod so clean usage of the well was return; this simple and fast repair improved the living conditions in this rural community immensely, as 450 members of the school and over 1000 people from the surrounding area benefit directly or indirectly from the pure drinking water. With similar repairs and maintenance techniques that are inexpensive and uncomplicated, significant benefit are provided to residents in rural areas that would otherwise suffer from insufficient water supplies.
